Aging Facilities

Upgrades and Replacements of our Aging Facilities, Transportation and Technology

  • The bond proposal is phase 1 of a long-range plan to replace and upgrade Galveston ISD existing facilities to meet the educational goals of the district
  • While many of our facilities enjoy a rich history, the buildings (some of which are over 80 years old) lack the classroom size or infrastructure to meet current TEA standards or the demands for technology
  • During Hurricane Ike, GISD lost the entire bus fleet.  Over time the district has been replacing that fleet or has purchased older buses from other school districts.  This bond will add 13 new buses and white fleet vehicles to be used by maintenance, warehouse, child nutrition, police, and athletics
  • Weis Middle School will become a 5th-6th grade campus
  • Central Middle School will become a 7th-8th grade campus
  • Austin Middle School will be used during the transition and will eventually be repurposed within Galveston ISD
